Outside The Box
Coca-Cola asked us to take their bottled product and package it in 12-packs. Our job was to case the bottles in a shallow cardboard box and shrink wrap them.
During the first production run, it occurred to our manager running the line that the 2 – 2 ½ inch sides on the box were unnecessary and wasteful, as the bottles were sufficiently held in place by the shrink wrap.
We did some sample packs replacing the box with a flat sheet of corrugate and shipped them to the customer. It was a hit – they loved it! Using less material saved them money, but reducing the amount of packaging waste also fit perfectly with their other “green” business initiatives.
It’s interesting to note that Coco-Cola was initially using only our transportation services. They heard about our packaging division and because of the great service we had already given them, decided to give us the opportunity to package their product.
It’s a great example of how doing right by the customer every time can lead to more opportunities to work together.
We don’t want to be just a company that provides good service and collects a paycheck. We consider ourselves our clients’ partner, committed to their success as well as ours. We start every job with this question: “How can we make this better for the customer?”
